Interestingly, there was also a high number of journalists, who quit their careers for the often murky political waters and to the surprise of many, they emerged winners.
Kenyans.co.ke compiled a list of six journalists who were lucky enough to clinch various elective posts in this years’ hotly-contested.
1. Granton Graham Samboja
Former Radio Jambo Presenter Granton Samboja is set to be the next Taita Taveta County Governor.
Samboja was vying on a Wiper Party ticket against incumbent John Mruttu who was vying on an ODM ticket.
The Governor-elect garnered 39,252 votes against Mruttu’s 23,150 votes.
2. Mohammed Ali
Former KTN Investigative Reporter Mohammed Ali aka Moha is set to become the next Member of Parliament (MP) for Nyali Constituency.
Moha was vying as an independent candidate after losing in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s brother Said Abdalla Salim aka Saido.
The MP-elect garnered 29,798 votes against Saido’s 16,473 votes.
